Harford County Youth Baseball

presents the
2nd annual
Recreational Baseball Tournament
June 13,14, and 15, 2008

to benefit
On January 25th , 2006, Mary Lynne and I were given some of the most terrifying news one
could imagine.
"I'm sorry, you've got CANCER".
As you can imagine, we were both devastated.
When?
How?
Can you fix it?
Will she live?
What do we tell the kids?
A host of questions, problems, hurdles, challenges, appointments, treatments, and doctors
visits awaited us. We thought the world had caved in on us.
To a certain extent we were right. It was/is hard. It'll never truly be "over" for either of us,
though as of today, January 28th 2007, she's fine. She's in remission, with no sign of any
cancer....anywhere.
I will say, though nobody can be prepared for the seemingly endless parade of lab coats
and baby blue nurse outfits with flowery tops and white shoes, you SHOULD be prepared
to receive the most gracious of gifts. I know we weren't prepared for the love that
enveloped us in 2006.
Our friends, family, and our son, Jesse, and daughter, Jamie,  came together in a most
beautiful way. We never wanted for support, a shoulder to cry on, a hand with dinner,
somebody to listen. Jarrettsville is a very special place to live, and everyone of you who's
touched our lives through this ordeal should be extremely proud of yourselves.
This is for you.....
This is some payback.
Our family loves this game, we love our town, we love our friends, we love our family.
Most of all....we love each other....and that got us through.
Help us out.
Help us to give back to the people that help cure cancer.
They do......I've seen it....first hand.
Meanwhile, let's give some of these young "stars"....the kids who hear about the
tournaments in school, see their friends with Harford County Spring Classic T's, ride by the
school on a Saturday in June and see the carnival of people playing baseball. Let's give
them a chance to feel the thrill of hanging at the ball field with nothing more to do than
watch kids who love to play baseball.....PLAY BASEBALL.
One bat, one ball, one life...

Beyond the Bases is a benefit baseball
tournament, conceived to raise money for
the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It is
designed to do several things.

1- Raise money for a cause that is near and
dear to our family.

2- To give an opportunity for recreation ball
players to participate in a to
urnament
atmosphere.

3- To raise awareness that cancer effects
almost every family in one way or another,
and to remind everyone that they are NOT
alone.

The idea was conceived one winter
evening at a Light the Night Fundraising
dinner. It has been supported by a majority
of the rec councils in the Harford County
Parks and Rec. area.
Last years tournament
had 18 teams from 8 different rec councils
participating to raise over $4000.00.

It is our hope to grow this tournament. If
you have any questions, please e-mail us at
the link provided below. If you want to
sponsor a tournament in your area. I can
provide the details and parameters by
which we wish to organize the tournament
by.
